History:
There are records showing 2000 buried at Douglass but only 650 graves with headstones. Most of the people buried at Fredrick Douglass were born into slavery. The last burial took place in 1975. This cemetery has been neglected over the past 100 years. There are apartment buildings built close to the graves and flooding is a big issue when it rains. The cemetery was renamed in 1896 after Fredrick Douglass.
